STORIES OF OCTOBER 7th

On October 7th Nir Oz was under a vicious attack of hundreds of terrorists.
The residents of this quiet and rural community, were left to fend for themselves. Some went out to fight, some held the door of the safe room for hours on end, some hid under beds or in closets.
These are some of their stories.

Neflix and Kill: How a Palestinian Woman Took Over an Israeli Family's Home on Oct. 7 (The testimony of Natali Yohanan)

Natali Yohanan, a 38-year-old mother of two, never felt a need to lock the doors of her house in Nir Oz, a kibbutz near Israel's border with the Gaza Strip. There wasn't even a key.   During the Oct. 7 terror attack on southern Israel, a Gazan woman walked through Yohanan's front door and stayed for hours, eating, singing, and watching Netflix. Sometimes, the woman served drinks to armed terrorists who stopped by for a break from the massacre they were conducting outside.   Yohanan, hiding with her family in the safe room of the house, did not see the unwanted house guest, but she thinks about her constantly. She imagines the woman is also young mother and wonders how she could have been so cruel. Like many survivors of Hamas's surprise attack from Gaza, Yohanan no longer believes coexistence with the Palestinians is possible.

Survivor recalls October 7 Hamas attack on Israeli kibbutz

The Nir Oz kibbutz was among the hardest-hit communities by Hamas when the militant group launched surprise attacks in Israel.

Survivors said one in four people were either killed or kidnapped in the kibbutz, which lies within view of southern Gaza.

During a media trip to the kibbutz organized by the Israel military, slicks of dry blood were seen in some homes, next to doors riddled with bullets.

The Israel-Hamas war following the attacks has claimed more than 4,000 lives, mostly civilians, on both sides.

Hadas Kalderon's son and daughter were taken by Hamas gunmen from her family home in Kibbutz Nir Oz.

On the evening of Simchat Torah, Omer visited her family in Kibbutz Nir Oz. When the alarms started on Saturday, she hid in the safe room with her uncle, aunt, and their children. They could hear the terrorists walking around the kibbutz the whole time.

Hostage's family holds hope for father's return one year after October 7 attack
